Start your journey half way between Bundaberg and Gin Gin at 15 Lines Road, South Kolan, where the mysteriously named Mystery Craters have been baffling locals for decades. First discovered in 1971, these 35 oddly-shaped craters are a bizarre blend of sandstone and ochre. So alluring are these natural phenomenon, that they have featured on Unsolved Mysteries of the World as well as Ripley's Believe It Or Not.

Lake Monduran to Gin Gin

Drive past fields of quintessential Queensland sugarcane, for which this region is famous, before you arrive at Lake Monduran about 45 kilometres past Gin Gin. This tranquil waterside location is best known for its huge barramundi and is in fact home of the world-record barra catch at 135 centimetre tall, 44.6 kilograms and a girth of 107 centimetres.

From food to history, Gin Gin is a lovely rural town with trademark yawning wide streets. A highlight of a visit here is the Gin Gin and District Historical Society with its heritage-listed railway, Markets Museum, policeman's residence and Euston Barn. Demonstrating this region is not only about cane and cattle, Claxton Olives pays homage to some of the more recent innovations in regional farming.

Goodnight Scrub to Wallaville

How could you resist a National Park named Goodnight Scrub? Framed by the Burnett River, there's 165 species of birds and butterflies in this haven for wildlife. The river here is also one of the known habitats of the unique Australian Lungfish and if you love great views, walk or drive to the top of One Tree Hill. A cold drink at the old Wallaville Hotel in Mill Street is a great way to end this journey.
