Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat

Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat is a family-owned attraction on Green Island, just a 45-minute ferry ride from Cairns. The Craig Family has lived and worked here since 1971, when George and Shirley Craig moved to the island with their children, several crocodiles, and an extraordinary collection of Melanesian tribal art.

The attraction was first built in 1958 as Marineland Zoological Gardens. When the Craigs purchased it in 1971, they renamed it Marineland Melanesia and began building the unique wildlife experience visitors enjoy today. Four generations of the family have now called Green Island home.

Marineland Melanesia is home to three species of huge live crocodiles. Visitors can see these predators up close during the daily educational crocodile presentations and enjoy the long-running saltwater aquarium, operating since 1958. They are also home extensive collection of Melanesian carvings and maritime artefacts George collected over many decades.

They are also pleased to welcome guests into their new Legacy Room, which highlights the taxidermy of their Guinness record holder, Cassius.

Marineland Melanesia represents George's lifelong love of crocodiles and the art they led him to. The family is proud of this legacy and remains committed to a sustainable future for the reef, the corals, and their crocodiles.
