Gulflander

Affectionately known as the train that goes "from nowhere to nowhere" the line opened in 1891 to connect the once bustling port of Normanton to the gold fields of Croydon. It remains the only line in Queensland still measured in miles. The construction of the line is an ingenious engineering feat built to withstand almost anything – including floods and termites. Even today, the line retains most of the original rail and sleepers.

A trip on the Gulflander is more than a rail journey – it's a living piece of Queensland history. A once in a lifetime experience for young and old, and a must-do when travelling in the Gulf Savannah region.
