With arguably one of the best climates in the world, choosing the best season to visit the Gold Coast is like picking your favourite child. But if you insist? Spring might just have it by a nose.

Warm days, crisp nights, and jacarandas in full bloom. The beaches sparkle, the air’s electric, and it’s the perfect time to chase natural beauty, vibrant events, and hidden gems.

Here’s a local’s guide to enjoying the best of the Gold Coast in spring.

1. Unmissable events

Spring brings a flurry of fantastic events to the Gold Coast. Our picks?

2. Gold Coast beaches

Our beaches are legendary, but there are some lesser-known spots that locals adore. Done Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach? Throw your towel down at these spots instead:

  • Tallebudgera Creek's tranquil waters will keep you coming back
  • Snapper Rocks or Greenmount for epic surfing
  • Burleigh Heads is a local favourite with cafes, restaurants, and trinket-filled boutiques just a short walk away
  • Rainbow Bay offers the best shelter on a windy day (and a great surf club)

3. Drink and dine

Spring serves up perfect weather for rooftop bars, alfresco dinners and long lunches with a view. Just add fresh local flavours and a splash of sunshine.

Want to dine at one of the hottest new Gold Coast restaurants?

  • Norté & Sueño, Nobby Beach: A bold Latin-American double act from the Rick Shores crew. Refined eats downstairs at Norté, breezy cocktails upstairs at Sueño.
  • Bar Monte, Miami: Cosy, charming, and full of flavour, this modern Italian gem nails classics like cacio e pepe with a killer wine list to match.
  • POKKOi, Coolangatta: A vibrant mash-up of Thai and Vietnamese favourites, like beef-rendang doughnuts, wok-fired mains, and playful cocktails.
  • Burly Bar, Currumbin: Stylish new spot with creative small plates and top-notch gin-based bevvies tucked into The Warehouses.

Hungry? We've got you covered.

4. The getaway within a getaway

Sometimes, even locals need a quick escape. When they do? It's to the Gold Coast Hinterland. Head for the hills of O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat for a refreshing, peaceful haven among the trees, with activities like guided walks and treetop canopy tours

Or, treat yourself to a stint at the Gold Coast's newest luxury digs. Mondrian just opened its doors in Burleigh Heads, and with a handful of restaurants a pool club and day spa you could indulge without leaving the entire weekend.

5. Take a road trip

A road trip along the coast is a must in spring, so put these on your radar:

  • Coastal cool: Drive from Southport to Coolangatta, enjoying stops at beaches, cafes, and surf clubs along the way. Stop at Burleigh Hill for breathtaking views, and continue to Siblings in Kirra for an epic lunch overlooking the waves.
  • Hinterland adventure: Point your bonnet westward and chase waterfalls in Lamington or Springbrook National Park, or explore the quaint charms of Tamborine Mountain. Where else can you find glowworm caves, a winery, hiking trails, a coffee plantation, and a cuckoo clock shop all in the same village?

6. Embrace spring camping

Did you know the Gold Coast offers some of Queensland's best campgrounds?

For a beach escape, choose:

  • Burleigh Beach Tourist Park is nestled between Burleigh Beach and Tallebudgera Creek, for tranquil beachside bliss with plenty of amenities and access to cafes and markets, Tip: book well in advance.
  • Nobby Beach Holiday Village has plenty of modern conveniences with a playground, pool, and a laid-back vibe, making it a hit for families.

Pitch your tent in the rainforest:

  • Binna Burra Lodge, located in Lamington National Park, is a lush rainforest escape with multiple camping options, hiking trails, and starry nights nearly guaranteed.
  • Bigriggen Park is an off-grid paradise near Mount Barney National Park, surrounded by mountains and wildlife.

7. Instagrammable spring spots

Whether you're shooting on a vintage Contax, a retro point-and-shoot, or just maxing out your phone’s storage, the Gold Coast is packed with photogenic gems worth the snap.

  • Currumbin Rock Pools: Crystal-clear water, lush greenery, and total rainforest serenity. Pure postcard material.
  • The Natural Bridge, Springbrook National Park: A dreamy waterfall meets a cave glowing with bioluminescent magic after dark.
  • Tallebudgera Creek: Turquoise water, soft sand, and that epic view between Burleigh Headland and Palm Beach. Chef’s kiss.
  • Snapper Rocks: Rolling surf and dramatic rocky ledges. This one’s made for golden hour.
  • Miami Beach: Pastel lifeguard towers and palm-lined boardwalks give serious vintage beach vibes.
  • Miami Marketta & Chevron Island: Bold murals and offbeat street art add splashy colour to any shoot.
  • Paddock Bakery, Miami: Rustic garden setting, heavenly brekkie spreads and coffee that looks as good as it tastes.

8. Local Gold Coast markets

Spring is market season on the Gold Coast, with plenty of local offerings to explore. Ready to shop?

  • Palm Beach Farmers Market: A springtime fave for fresh local produce, artisan treats and good vibes by the beach.
  • Burleigh Market: Think gourmet eats, handmade goodies, vintage finds, and live tunes under the trees.
  • HOTA Farmers and Artisan Market: Held at the Home of the Arts precinct, this one’s full of street food, fashion, art. Bonus? A world-class gallery right next door.
  • Carrara Markets: Australia’s biggest permanent market, with 400+ stalls selling everything from fresh fruit to cult sneakers, plants, homewares, toys and more.
  • Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets: Browse by moonlight every Friday and Saturday, right on the sand with local crafts, food, fashion and coastal flair.

9. Walking and hiking trails

Spring on the Gold Coast is perfect for hitting the trails - and there's plenty to choose from.

Our favourite? The oceanview walk at Burleigh Head National Park offers the best effort-to-views ratio. For waterfall hopping and mountain panorams, head to the hinterland where there's hikes for every level.

10. Adrenaline and adventure

Spring is the perfect time to feel alive and get your heart racing. From Australia’s highest external building climb at Skypoint to skydiving onto the beach, squealing on a rollercoaster at the Gold Coast’s theme parks, or whizzing, spinning and drifting with jet boating expedition, thrillseekers have plenty to choose from.

If you’re looking for something less death-defying but no less adventurous, try ziplining at the TreeTop Challenge in Tamborine Mountain; kayaking, paddleboarding, or jet skiing in the Broadwater; or for a unique perspective of the coast, a hot air balloon ride over the hinterland or a scenic helicopter flight along the coastline.
