This historic mine site is located at Scottville via Collinsville, and is considered one of the best-preserved examples of early coal mining in Queensland.
The mine operated from 1919 till 1964, and was heritage listed in 2009. Many buildings and machinery remain, including the large poppet head.
The site had both parallel and vertical shafts. See where men and pit ponies worked together underground as mates.
Mining commenced with the Garrick seam and concluded with the Bowen seam at this location.
Tours are conducted by appointment by volunteers of the local historical society.
600m of railed concrete pathways make it an easy walk for visitors.
It is accessible by road, and parking is available at the entrance.
