Australian Sugar Cane Railway

The Australian Sugar Cane Railway is a two-kilometre ride on Bundaberg's heritage sugar industry 610 mm gauge railway through the picturesque Botanic Gardens in North Bundaberg.

The journey takes you around the lakes with turtles, eels, water birds and a boardwalk, then continues through the workshop facility that houses maintenance equipment and the rest of the fleet of rolling stock, around past the Chinese gardens, the band rotunda. The carriages are built on genuine sugar cane trucks that operated on the area's narrow-gauge railways and have been converted to passenger carriages.

On Sundays the train is hauled by one of our three steam locomotives, 1907 Leeds Fowler "INVICTA", 1914 Orenstein & Koppel "GERMANY" or the locally built Bundaberg Foundry Company 1952 Fowler No3. Wednesdays are diesel days with the 1965 "VALDORA" that worked the cane fields around Nambour in Queensland. During Queensland school holidays the train operates on Sundays (steam), Tuesdays (diesel), Wednesdays (steam), Fridays (diesel).

Genuine Australian and locally made souvenirs are available for purchase at the station located adjacent to the 1928 Cafe. The Australian Sugar Cane Railway is a working museum.
