Held annually on the first Sunday in May, the Feast of the Three Saints takes place at St John's Parish School in Silkwood, a charming town just 1.5 hours south of Cairns. This significant event commemorates the lives of three brothers — Saints Alfio, Filadelfo and Cirino — who were martyred for their Christian faith.
The day's program features a concelebrated Italian Mass with visiting Italian and local priests, followed by a solemn procession through the streets of Silkwood. An English concelebrated Mass is held in the afternoon, culminating in the Blessing and Veneration of the relics of the Three Saints.
Festivities continue with a lively barbecue serving traditional Italian cuisine, market stalls and entertainment, before the evening sky is illuminated by a spectacular fireworks display at 7.00 pm.
Open to all, the Feast is a vibrant celebration of Italian heritage and its enduring contribution to Australian culture through food, music and customs. Celebrated in Silkwood for over 75 years, I Tre Santi is now recognised as one of Australia's largest religious and cultural festivals, attracting visitors from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds from around the world.
It attracts around 4,000 people on the day and is the largest Religious / Cultural Festival of its kind held in Australia.
