The Woolshed at Jondaryan

The historic Jondaryan Woolshed in Southern Queensland Country offers visitors an immersive walk through restored colonial buildings and one of Australia's leading tributes to the wool industry and its role in shaping the Darling Downs.

In 1973, Lawrie and Lyn Rutledge gifted the Woolshed to the Jondaryan community. With strong support from volunteers, locals, and businesses, the site was developed over the next three decades into a major heritage attraction. Many buildings were relocated from rural properties once linked to the original 19th‑century Jondaryan Station. The shearing shed was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992, and the Museum now houses an extensive collection of wagons, tractors, and agricultural machinery.

Management transferred to Jondaryan Shire Council in 2002 and later to Toowoomba Regional Council in 2008. Since then, new facilities—including a popular caravan park—have enhanced the visitor experience.

Visitors can explore the grounds through a self‑guided tour on non‑event days, supported by a downloadable app that shares stories about key buildings. School groups are welcomed with hands‑on packages and damper morning tea, and several areas across the site are available for weddings and private functions.
