North Bommie is one of the best locations to see Manta Rays at Heron Island. Numerous bommies are found at this site in depths to 20 metres, with the largest a fish cleaning station. Manta rays hover over the bommie to get cleaned, but even if no manta rays show up North Bommie is always a lovely dive.
Exploring these bommies divers will find turtles, stingrays, red emperor, gropers, batfish and reef sharks. Reef and pelagic fish are also common at the site, and this is one of Heron Island’s best macro sites.
A close inspection of the corals will often reveal pipefish, boxfish, nudibranchs, flatworms, blennies, gobies and even leaf scorpionfish.
