Want the local lowdown on Straddie? Swing by the Visitor Information Centre and have a yarn with someone who knows it best.
The beaches here are next level. If you did nothing but lay on the sand, you’d still be winning. But why stop there? Surf world-class breaks, chase views along the Gorge Walk (a great vantage point for turtle, ray and dolphin spotting), or dive into manta-filled waters at Manta Bommie, one of Australia’s top dive sites. Humpback whales put on a show from June to November, and the clifftop views guarantee a front-row seat (plus kangaroo cameos at dawn and dusk).
To go deeper, join a Goompi Trail or Yura Tours experience with a local Quandamooka guide. You’ll walk ancient paths, taste bush tucker, and see Minjerribah through a different lens.
Prefer freshwater? Float in Bummiera (Brown Lake), a tea tree-infused beauty that doubles as a skin treatment. Or press pause on the schedule and relax by sacred Blue Lake (swimming’s off-limits here out of deep cultural respect).
Back in town, soak up the island’s creative spirit at Delvene Cockatoo Collins’ studio, Island Arts Gallery, and more. Watch wild dolphins cruise by the jetty at Amity Point, or keep an eye out for sleepy koalas on your morning coffee run.
Hungry? Straddie does fresh and local like a pro. Think seafood off the boat, sunny cafes, waterfront pubs, and a craft beer with water views at Straddie Brewing Co.
Getting here’s a breeze: ferries and water taxis run daily from Cleveland. Sleep under the stars at beachfront campgrounds or level up with glamping tents and eco stays. Got a 4WD? There’s a permit-ready patch of paradise waiting for you at Flinders Beach or Main Beach.
Come for a weekend. Come back for a lifetime.
