Facing Island

Get in touch

Facing Island sits just off the Gladstone coast and offers long beaches, rolling dunes and quiet bushland suited to experienced campers. The island is reached by private boat or barge service. A four wheel drive and full camping equipment are essential.

Visitors explore the shoreline by four wheel drive, walk the beaches, fish from the surf and enjoy the open coastal landscape. The island has designated camping areas, including The Oaks. The Oaks has composting toilets but no drinking water, no showers and no other facilities. All water, food, cooking equipment and supplies must be brought in and taken out. Only gas or liquid-fuel stoves are permitted.

The bushland supports a variety of birdlife and provides shaded tracks that lead to quiet stretches of sand. Many campers spend their days beachcombing, spotting wildlife and watching the tides shift along the coastline.

Facing Island appeals to travellers who enjoy remote, self-sufficient camping and unspoilt coastal settings. Camp site bookings for The Oaks can be made through approved booking channels.
