North West Island Reef Camping

Escape to the second largest coral cay in the Great Barrier Reef, the beautiful Northwest Island, where the campground is right on the reef. Enjoy lazy days on the beach, snorkelling amongst the coral gardens, diving the reef, fishing the deep, or kayaking the reef flats. Northwest Island is located in the Capricorn Bunker group which consists of 22 reefs and 16 coral cays and home of the great eight – Whales, Turtles, Sharks, Clown fish, Giant Clams, Manta Rays, Cod, and Barry the Maori Wrasse. Along with the Great8, 22 species of birds call into Northwest Island including mainly being black noddies and wedge-tail shearwater.

Masthead Island Reef Camping

Relax and unwind with beachfront camping on the picturesque Masthead Island in the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Immerse yourself in the ultimate survival experience on one of the most undisturbed and pristine coral cays in the Capricorn Cays National Park.

You can indulge in lazy days on the beach, snorkelling and diving amongst the coral gardens and reef, fishing the deep, kayaking the reef flats or nighttime star gazing with Masthead Island being full of back-to-basic adventures. With island camping season open from Easter through mid-October, you will find that Masthead Island is the perfect place for a secluded island getaway. As you will be 60 kilometres from the mainland and there are no facilities provided, all essentials for your trip will have to be carried to the island.

Lady Musgrave Island Reef Camping

Explore the untouched oasis on the Southern-most island of the Great Barrier Reef, Lady Musgrave Island. You can get up close and personal with the exotic birdlife, the Great 8 of marine animals and endless flora on the flawless Lady Musgrave Island. She has a year round tidal access by small boat in the calm lagoon which is only metres from the reefs edge.

You can enjoy a spot of beach front whale watching from June through to November. As the whales pass the Fraser Coast along their migration to Antarctica, they enjoy the warm shallow Musgrave water and are sure to put on a show.

You can also savour in the year-round experience of swimming with turtles. From October through to February, you will enjoy an array of turtles flooding the island for their breeding seasons, however, you will experience the hatchlings emerging from their nests from December through to May. Lady Musgrave is also known for its abundance of seabird life.If you would like to camp on Lady Musgrave Island, all essentials must be carried to the island as there are no facilities available.
