Drive South on the Bruce Highway to the charming township of Sarina and make your first stop at the fantastic Field of Dreams! The Field of Dreams Parkland is situated in front of Wilmar Plane Creek Sugar Mill and is also home to an array of interesting and historical attractions.

Begin your exploration by booking a tour through the Sarina Sugar Shed, Australia's only miniature sugar mill and distillery, to discover the journey of sugar, from paddock to plate! Learn about the evolution of the sugar industry throughout Queensland and view vintage cane harvesting equipment. Drive back to Mackay and head on the Peak Downs Highway through Walkerston and when you reach the township of Eton, head towards the Marian-Eton Road. On your journey to Marian, you will pass a large brick chimney, the sole surviving stack of the 39 sugar mills that were built in the Mackay District in the 1800's. Other surviving relics can be discovered on this site, including concrete foundations and a well. Mackay's Visitor Information Centre on Nebo Road has a replica of the Richmond Mill stack built beside it.

Once in Marian, take the opportunity to visit historic Melba House. This historic building was once the home of famous Australian opera singer, Dame Nellie Melba and showcases a collection of memorabilia to celebrate the Dame's career. Melba House is also home to an accredited Information Centre, with advice and information to enhance your local excursion.

Marian is also home to Mackay District's largest sugar mill, which operates during crushing season, (June to November).

Mirani Museum to Farleigh Sugar Mill

Continue your drive to the quaint township of Mirani and visit the Mirani Museum. The beautifully presented musuem includes a display on the sugar industry, indigenous artefacts and a large natural history section which includes the fossilised remains of a Diprotodon.

The nearby township of Pinnacle is an ideal location to stop for coffee and cake. The Pinnacle Pub is home to the Pinnacle Pie and they are one of the best pies in town! Relax in a tropical garden and gaze toward a field of sugar cane.

Cunnamulla locals reckon that in their town, the handshake's stronger and the smile lasts longer. Perhaps that's why Slim Dusty's 'Cunnamulla fella' has become the epitome of bush folk and the bronze statue of him in the main street immortalises the larrikin in all Australians as he sits on his swag enjoying the moment.

The “Montville of the Outback”, Eulo is a small community with a large pride which is evident when you visit. Famous not only for the infamous “Eulo Queen” and the hotel named after her but also for the abundant local produce and product as well as opal and craft which can all be purchased in the town.

Eromanga

Eromanga, Quilpie Area
Famous for being Australia's furthest town from the ocean, Eromanga is located 108 kilometres west of Quilpie on a fully sealed road. Sustained by surrounding pastoral properties, some of which are over 8,000 square kilometres, Eromanga is also home to the Eromanga Oil and Gas Basin, which produces around one and a half million barrels of oil each year.

Mungallala

Mungallala, said to mean 'food and water' is the site of a cypress sawmill, located about half way between Mitchell and Morven where the Warrego Highway crosses the Mungallala Creek. Mungallala originated as a railway town and is a wonderful place to stop for lunch and experience the workings of an outback town.

Thallon

Thallon was gazetted in 1911 and was named after the Commissioner of Railways, Mr JF Thallon. The town is surrounded by prime grain growing country and draws grain in from Weengallon, Nindigully, Mungindi, Dirranbandi and Thallon.

Saddliers Waterhole and Hamburg Creek

With a population of less than 250, Morven is thought to be named after a mountain and town of the same name in Scotland. Captain T.J. Saddlier and his wife arrived in the area in the 1860s and camped on a deep waterhole of nearby Hamburg Creek.

Adavale

Adavale, Quilpie Area
Once a thriving town and business centre, Adavale's population has dwindled to around 15 today. Changing the planned railway line from Adavale to what is now Quilpie, was the beginning of the end for this pioneering town's prosperity.
