Banana

Visitors are always a little baffled by the town’s unusual name, particularly as there isn’t a single banana tree in sight. A dun-coloured bullock is responsible for that. A favourite of local stockmen in the 1860s, Banana the bullock, so named for his yellowish colouring, would help herd wild cattle into holding yards.

Jackson

Jackson is a small town located between Miles and Roma on the Warrego Highway, approximately four hours drive from Brisbane. The small town is based on the rail industry and is home to Australia's largest onshore oil field.

Duchess

Forsayth

Forsayth, Etheridge Area
Sometimes history is more bizarre than fiction. Forsayth was once paved in gold - in a manner of speaking. Part of the Etheridge Goldfield, this area was known as 'Poor Man's Goldfield' as a prospector did not need expensive equipment to search for gold.

Amby

Amby, Maranoa Area
Amby, originally called Amby Creek, became a township in 1883 and forms part of the eastern boundary of the Outback region. It can best be described as where the grain and the grazing belts meet. The Old Stage Changeover Shanty - known to the locals as Netting Hole - dates back to 1875 and is located on the northern side of town, along the Warrego Way near Amby Downs waterhole.

Lake Moondarra

Lake Moondarra is situated just 17 kilometres north of the city centre of Mount Isa. It provides water to the city and the adjacent Mount Isa Mines (MIM) mining lease. Access to the lake is by a sealed road and offers a picturesque shoreline drive.

Visit 'Hughie', the seven-metre Muttaburrasaurus and an impressive fossil collection at the Flinders Discovery Centre. While you are there, relive the glory days of sheep production and its subsequent demise in the 'Shearing Straggler' exhibit.
