The Cathedrals

The Cathedrals on Fraser Island are coloured sand cliffs that have been sculpted by the wind and rain blowing in off the Pacific Ocean. The colours - red, brown, yellow and orange - are spectacular and are best viewed in the early morning light.

Rainbow Beach

This is heavenly sub-tropical, coastal town situated on the Great Beach Drive that is an aquatic lovers playground. Rainbow Beach, is a major entry point to the 41,000 hectare Cooloola National Park and the southern gateway to world heritage listed Fraser Island.

Mary River

The Mary River has been known by many names, with the Aborigines calling the river Booie, Moonaboola, Numabulla or Mooraboocoola. It was named the Wide Bay River until September 1848, when Governor Fitzroy renamed the river in honour of his wife, Lady Mary Fitzroy.

Queens Park Waterfall

Enjoy the popular spot for picnics, the Queens Park Waterfall. The waterfall area of Maryborough's Queens Park was originally a quarry, which was later converted into a pond, that is regularly home to several ducks swimming on its surface or even catching some sun on the edges.

Hiros Cave and The Tubes

The eastern side of Lady Elliot Island is not always dived as it is more exposed to the weather, but this part of the island has some lovely dive sites. A feature of this part of the fringing reef is a wall that drops from 14 metres to 22 metres.

Great Sandy Biosphere

In 2009, the Great Sandy region was awarded Biosphere Reserve status by UNESCO, the global organisation that also awards World Heritage Listings. The decision gives world-wide recognition to the Fraser Coast region, neighbouring Gympie area and the Bundaberg coastline and puts it in the same class as the Galapagos Islands, the Central Amazon, the Everglades and Uluru.

Nikenbah

Nikenbah, at Hervey Bay, is best known for its very good markets which are scheduled on the first and third Sundays of each month. Items for sale at these popular markets include arts and crafts, fresh produce, trash and treasure, cakes and jams and much more.

Urangan

One of the best kept secrets on the Fraser Coast, Urangan boasts long stretches of beautiful beaches, plenty of picnic and barbecue areas, superb fishing spots and a bunch of very friendly locals. On the east end of the bay you'll find a wonderful marina with a long pier where you can go for a stroll at sunrise.
