Mackay is a booming Queensland Region and the BMA Mackay Marina Run is the signature running event for the exciting and expanding city of Mackay. The event showcases the spectacular features of the tropical coastal city and celebrates the role that fun and fitness has in the community.

While attracting running enthusiasts from around the country it also has a key focus of attracting first time competitors through the provision of a half marathon, an eight kilometre run, a five kilometre fun run, five kilometre corporate challenge and three kilometre junior dash. Significant funds are raised for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Entertainment is provided at certain locations on the course including traditional jazz, rock n roll and folk to enhance the great feel to the event.

Mt Hypipamee

The Hypipamee crater is referred to as a volcanic pipe. The pipe was opened upward through surface rocks by gas produced from molten rock below and as a result of tremendous pressure, the vent exploded sending volcanic bombs far across the landscape.

Eubenangee Swamp National Park

Eubenangee Swamp, an important wetland in the coastal lowlands between Ingham and Cairns, is a birdwatchers' paradise. Over 190 species of birds have been recorded here. Sitting below the Bellenden Ker Range (the wettest part of Australia), much of this park is flooded during the wet season.

Curtain Fig Tree

The Curtain Fig National Park contains the renowned Curtain Fig Tree, an enormous strangler fig tree. Located a short drive out of Yungaburra, a small town in the Atherton Tableland, the giant tree has several aerial roots hanging down from its branches that look like curtains.

Tully Falls and Tully Gorge

Follow the scenic Tully Falls Road to the spectacular Tully Gorge Lookout. The falls only run in a big wet season, but the walls of raw rock and rainforest which plunge 300 metres (984 feet) down to the Tully River are still an awe-inspiring sight.

Mission Beach

Nature takes centre stage at Mission Beach with its long unspoilt beaches, deserted islands and white-water rivers fringed by rainforest. There are no crowds at this seductive and easy going destination which is perfect for relaxation or discovering adrenalin pumping outdoor activities.

Pepina Falls

Pepina Falls are best viewed in the time just after the "Green Season". The "Green Season" sometimes known as the wet season runs from January to the end of April most years. Located in a little seen area off the Old Palmerston Highway (the scenic route between Millaa Millaa and Ravenshoe) on Maalan Road they certainly provide a photographic opportunity.

Millstream Falls National Park

Plunging over the edge of a columnar basalt lava flow, Big Millstream Falls is reputedly the widest single-drop waterfall in Australia. Wander down the walking track leads to spectacular views of the falls.

Goldsborough Valley, Wooroonooran National Park
