Full Itinerary

As you wind your way back to Bundaberg from Mount Perry consider a stop in at the Wonbah winery with it's historic homestead from 1935, rustic workers cottages and spectacular views, be sure to call ahead if you're planning on popping in.

Spot the bats in the largest unsupported tunnel in the Southern Hemisphere at Boolboonda and as you go through Gin Gin make sure you stop and grab one of the famous pies or visit the Courthouse Gallery before making your way back to Bundaberg.

Head South from Bundaberg and make your way to Childers, only 45 minutes down the road. You can experience the famous ice-cream, sample flavoured nuts at the peanut van or discover the medicinal marvels of the 1890's at The Old Pharmacy Museum - an old chemist trapped in time.

Make a right turn and in about 50 kilometres from Childers you will see the 703 metre rocky outcrop of Mount Walsh which is a truly spectacular National Park that surrounds the region. Stay overnight in Biggenden.

Mt Walsh provides a stunning backdrop to the Biggenden region and is well worth a trip to the day use area to take a hike up the Mountain or just to stop a while and have a picnic. This rugged park has spectacular exposed granite outcrops and cliffs. The 'Bluff' area of Mount Walsh, at the park's northern end, is a prominent landmark and can be seen from Biggenden.

There are many varied experiences you can have in this quiet country town, check out a large private collection of dolls and toys at the Doll and Toy Museum on Fredrick Street or pick up some local historical knowledge at the Museum on George Street.

If you love everything trains, the Chowey Railway Bridge is the first of its kind in Australia and was opened in 1905 with perfectly constructed concrete arches. There is a day picnic area to take in the vistas and soak up the history.

Stay overnight here and head off to Paradise Dam in the morning.

35 kilometres from Biggenden lies Paradise Dam where fishing, watersports and a unique turtle hatchery are waiting to be discovered. You can enjoy the picnic and day use areas before heading off to Mount Perry.

Nestled within the Boolboonda and Normanby Ranges, Mount Perry is located only an hour's drive west of Bundaberg. Mount Perry is a quaint little town with several attractive parks for relaxing and enjoying the abundant wildlife including black cockatoos, galahs, king parrots and wallabies.

Enjoy the rugged mountain country scenery which can be viewed from the Normanby Lookout. From here you overlook the Mount Perry Township and the surrounding countryside. There are picnic tables and a directional dial for you to get your bearings.

Consider staying a night at Marchioness Farm B&B in Mount Perry, with a fourth generation farming family, before heading back to Bundaberg.
