Border Track

Multiple Locations

As the backbone of the Lamington walking track system, the Border Track will take you on a discovery of stunning waterfalls, awe-inspiring views and fascinating wildlife. The track winds through dense rainforest, interspersed with Antarctic Beech on the higher slopes.

The track is a section of the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk. It connects the Binna Burra and Green Mountains sections of the park, passing through warm and cool subtropical, and warm and cool temperate rainforest.

There is no shorter way to walk from either trailhead in the park. Stay on the Border Track. Other routes may appear to reduce the distance, but end up being longer. The track is 22-kilometres one-way and takes approximately seven hours.

Keep to tracks and take care near cliff edges, at lookouts, on rocks and near waterfalls, especially in wet weather. Never stand on cliff edges while looking through a camera or binoculars. Many tracks have steep drop-offs beside them, so walk carefully. Keep children under close supervision - a steep drop-off may be just around the corner.

Full Itinerary

The Border Track is the backbone of the Lamington walking track system, with most walks radiating from it. The track is also a section of the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk. This track connects the Binna Burra and Green Mountains sections of Lamington National Park, passing through warm and cool subtropical, and warm and cool temperate rainforest.

On a clear day, lookouts provide spectacular views of the Limpinwood Valley, Mount Warning and the Tweed Range. During winter months, walkers are likely to hear the loud ringing call of the Albert's lyrebird.

Please note: The Border Track is managed by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Please note that this map only shows an indicative start point for the walk. The track route and end point are not shown and this map cannot be used for navigation purposes. Please see the Queensland National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing web site for detailed maps and the latest park information, including opening hours and safety messages. When you are in the park, make sure you refer to signs at the start of the track for more information.
