Adventure enthusiasts start your engines. This drive may only be some 70 kilometres in length, but it's a journey packed with adrenalin. You'll start at the glorious Glass House Mountains where you can walk, rock climb or abseil on the newly opened tracks and trails around Mt Tibrogargan, the "father" of the mountains, before you heading on to Australia Zoo for a range of wonderful animal encounters. Then it's on to the Big Kart Track - it gets the adrenalin pumping, Aussie World, which is packed with adventure, before finishing at Caloundra Airport for a spot of skydiving.
One of Queensland's natural golden girls, the Glass House Mountains are distinctive volcanic plugs, rise abruptly out of a patchwork of farms and forests. There are both sealed and unsealed roads through the national park, with spectacular lookouts over the surrounding plains and eight walking tracks catering to all levels of experience. Fit walkers with rock-climbing skills can reach the summits of Mounts Tibrogargan, Ngungun or Beerwah. Suitably equipped experienced rock climbers can climb and abseil Mount Ngungun.
Drive to nearby Beerwah where you'll encounter another Queensland icon, Australia Zoo, and the former home of the Irwin family. legendary crocodile hunter Steve Irwin. With more than 1,200 animals and stacks of free shows daily, it's full of wildlife action and adventure. Get hands-on with their cuddly koalas, waddling wombats, slithering snakes and cute kangaroos. Come face-to-face with their majestic tigers, hand-feed their gorgeous elephants, or have your photo taken with a baby alligator.
For adventure of a different kind, the Big Kart Track is not far away and the largest commercial go kart track in Australia with 50 karts roaring along their 1.2 kilometres long international standard race track at six kilometres per hour.
Fully fuelled, head to Caloundra Airport and take an adventure flight where you can soar through the clouds. If you're up for an even bigger adrenaline rush, then check out skydiving.
