Mon Repos Walking Track

Bargara, Bundaberg Area

The Southern Great Barrier Reef is one of the most amazing places on earth to discover, nurture and reward your love of turtles. By night the turtles are busy nesting and laying their eggs along the Bundaberg region's lush coastline (from November to March), but by day the Mon Repos Walking Track explores the park behind the dunes by winding its way along the foreshore.

More fondly referred to as part of Bundaberg's "Turtle Trail" this sealed path winds 4.5 kilometres return along the Mon Repos shoreline and is an easy and fun way to explore through a relaxed walk, scoot or ride that the whole family can enjoy.

Volcanic black rocks, waves lapping the shore, sun streaming through the trees, native birds and wildlife will be sure to greet you as you explore the saltpans, freshwater ponds, mangroves and melaleuca forests.
Make sure you pack some water and insect repellent, choose your mode of transport and get exploring the lush coastline that many turtles love and return to year after year.

Mon Repos Walking Track

A walking track heads south from the Mon Repos Turtle Centre and explores the park behind the dunes on a leafy path. Take drinking water and use sunscreen and insect repellent. This track's natural features include saltpans, freshwater ponds, mangroves, melaleuca forests and coastal scenery.

View the heritage listed stone wall that is about 1.5 metres tall and extends inland for 1.58 kilometres. South Sea Islanders built the wall around 1884 as they cleared rubble from the cane fields.

To protect nesting and hatching turtles, from mid-October to the end of April this walking track is closed between 6pm and 6am.

Please Note: The Mon Repos walking track is managed by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Please note that this map only shows an indicative start point for the walk.
