Come and see why the locals visit this popular fishing hole. It is located on the famous Barcoo River only 17 kilometres south-west on the Isisford-Yaraka River Road. It is the widest part of this unique river system and has great fishing for the local yellow belly.

Banana

Valentine Plains, Banana Area
Visitors are always a little baffled by the town’s unusual name, particularly as there isn’t a single banana tree in sight. A dun-coloured bullock is responsible for that. A favourite of local stockmen in the 1860s, Banana the bullock, so named for his yellowish colouring, would help herd wild cattle into holding yards.

Opalton

Opalton, Winton Area
Home of Queensland Boulder Opal, Opalton lies 124 kilometres from Winton. Opal was first discovered here by George Cragg in 1888 and the first mine was worked in 1894. By the end of the decade there was a bustling township of 600 and Opalton became known for the enormous volume and quality of its opal.

The Outback town of Isisford was settled in the mid 1800s and the architecture reflects the lifestyle of it's humble beginnings. The Outer Barcoo Interpretive Centre, a museum depicting the evolution of nature from 100 million years ago to the present.
