Military Tour

As the home of Australia’s largest defence base, Townsville North Queensland possesses a fascinating military history like no other.

Their Military History Tour weaves together Townsville’s history, culture and scenery allowing you to delve a little deeper into the personality of Northern Australia’s largest city. You will explore museums, memorials, monuments, barracks, spectacular lookouts and lush tropical gardens as you piece together the stories of the people and events that have played an integral part in Townsville’s military history.

The tour stops a number of locations across the city, includes a beautiful morning tea at the Tumbetin Tea rooms in the Botanical gardens known as the Palmetum.

They also offer a Scenic tour which covers the cities general history and takes in the best of the city's iconic sights. This tour can be selected as an add-on option. When combined with their military tour as detailed above it creates a comprehensive full day of entertainment. Adds an additional 2.5 hours to the return time detailed above.

City Lights Tour

Townsville North Queensland is a thriving city combining federation architecture with alfresco dining, urban street art, boutique shopping and an arts, culture and entertainment scene like no other city in regional Australia.

Begin your City Lights Tour by admiring the work of a local artist at one of Townsville’s boutique art galleries, before taking in the spectacular scenery of Townsville by twilight as you dine at a private venue overlooking the water. 

After admiring Castle Hill from the water’s edge the evening will conclude at the very top of the Hill where you’ll enjoy the breathtaking view of the sparkling lights of Townsville’s vibrant city.

River to Mountain Tour

Discover the heritage listed Chimney that belonged to one of Townsville’s first industries and the story behind it. View the Regional Hospital and James Cook University, as you drive around its Campus. Learn about the early pioneers and explorers and the history of the Ross River. Enjoy a walk around the magnificent River-way complex.

Then you'll head for Thornton’s Gap to enjoy the spectacular views from the top of the mountains, immerse yourself in the memorabilia at the (Eureka Hotel) their Heritage Tea Rooms, a piece of their history, still standing to remind them of a time when the world and Townsville was a far different place.
