Discover Queensland's

Dinosaurs

UNEARTH GIANTS. WALK WITH LEGENDS.

Outback Queensland’s stories don’t just go back a hundred years. They go back a hundred million.

This is where prehistoric giants once roamed, and their footprints are still stamped into the land. From world-famous fossil sites to stampedes frozen in time, our red dirt country is a living museum of ancient wonders. And in true Outback style, there’s no velvet ropes here: you can follow dinosaur trails, brush off bones in the lab or dig into the earth yourself.

It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s roaring with the past.

Follow prehistoric footsteps

Jurassic Park’s got CGI. We’ve got the real deal.

Over 100 million years ago, dinosaurs ruled the land (and sea) where Queensland’s wide-open plains now stretch to the horizon. These days? It’s a living, breathing museum, just with a lot more red dirt and roo tracks.

Out here in Outback Queensland, dinosaur bones aren’t locked behind glass. They’re part of the landscape. And the best bit? You don’t need a palaeontology degree or a khaki jumpsuit to get involved.

Hit the road on the Australian Dinosaur Trail, a legendary loop linking Winton, Hughenden and Richmond, where ancient stories roar back to life. In Winton, you’ll find the world’s only preserved dino stampede, plus the Australian Age of Dinosaurshome to the biggest collection of Aussie fossils on Earth, and real-life digs where you can dust off bones like a pro.

In Hughenden, Porcupine Gorge shows off fossils carved into 500-million-year-old gorge walls. Head north to Richmond to uncover ancient sea creatures, frozen in time from when this whole patch of Outback was underwater.

Further south, Eromanga lays claim to Australia’s biggest-ever dino, named Cooper. So massive, he’s got his own museum. And out in Queensland’s remote north-west? Riversleigh delivers a fossil site so epic it’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed.

Feel like digging in? Join a real dig or learn to prep prehistoric bones in the lab. In this ancient neck of the woods you’re not just learning about history, you’re helping unearth it.
