Smithys Fishing Charters is unique in the fact that they run two boats, the 7.7 metre (25 foot) offshore boat “Capricorn” and the 4.55 metre (15 foot) inshore boat “Kuhlia” to make the most of the prevailing weather conditions.

Established over five years ago, local owner operated Smithys is now one of the longest working charter boat businesses out of the port of Mooloolaba.

“Capricorn” is centrally located on the Minyama canals off the Mooloolah river at the Kawana Waters Hotel on the Sunshine Coast and “Kuhlia” is on a trailer so can operate anywhere in South East Queensland.

If you are looking for the perfect gift for a fishing enthusiast, you can purchase a gift voucher from them, they can also tailor a trip to suit everyone including from individuals to groups, corporate or bucks parties, end of year or Christmas work trips. They cater for most people this includes people that may be less experienced. Canal cruises and dolphin spotting tours for tourists are also available on request.

Smithys Fishing Charters are also members of the QSIA (Queensland Seafood Industry Association’s) PCOQ (Professional Charter Operators of Queensland) division so you know you are in safe hands.

Our Tours

Offshore Tours

A sole charter on the offshore boat “Capricorn” is based on the boat being full with four customers. If there are less people, the price is still for four people. They’ll book two to three people in at the per person price if you want to share with others. Maximum of six people.

Tours can run from three to twelve hours depending on the time of day and experience that you would like.

A sole charter on the inshore boat “Kuhlia” (freshwater and estuary) is based on the boat being full with two customers. One person has to pay the price of two if they are wishing to go alone. Maximum of three people.

The Hummock

Situated off the road to Bargara is the low-lying volcanic remnant known as The Hummock which, although only 96 metres above sea-level, offers visitors good views over the whole area. The ocean is visible to the east while, to the west, the sugar fields can be seen encircling the city with the smoke stacks of the Bundaberg Distillery and Mill on the horizon.

MV Karma Shipwreck

Christmas came early to divers in the Bundaberg area in December 2003, when a 42 metre long gravel barge sank off the coast north of the city. That ship was the MV Karma and today it rests in 26 metres of water and is one of the best wreck dives in Queensland.
