Mount Hobwee Circuit

Multiple Locations

This park has been impacted by recent severe weather events in Queensland. Please check park alerts for the latest information on access, closures and conditions.

The Binna Burra section of the World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park is renowned for diverse vegetation, rugged terrain and a bird's eye view of the Gold Coast and hinterland.

Trek 18.2 kilometres along the Mount Hobwee Circuit which is reached five and a half kilometres along the Border Track. Later pass through Nothofagus Gondwana forest often lined in 'beech orange' fungus and only found in Australia and South America.

Spot the track on the left leading 1163 metres to the summit of Mount Hobwee, Wagawn and Araucaria lookouts. Wagawn boasts uninterrupted views of Springbrook, the Tweed Valley and Mount Warning while nearby Araucaria lookout is lined in Helmholtzia lilies and named after the hoop pine communities representative of the Jurassic Age - the age of the conifers about 180 million years ago.

The circuit re-joins the Border Track for the return trek to the Binna Burra car park.

Full Itinerary

After leaving the Border Track 5.4 kilometres from Binna Burra, this circuit winds through rainforest to the summit of Mount Hobwee (1163 metres). Much of the forest near the summit was disturbed by a severe storm in 1983.

The Nothofagus forest and associated communities found here and Mount Merino provide strong evidence of the Gondwana connection. The 'beech orange', a species of fungus, occurs only on Nothofagus species found in Australia and South America.

The circuit rejoins the Border Track for the return to the Binna Burra car park.

Please see the Queensland National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing web site for detailed maps and the latest park information, including opening hours and safety messages. When you are in the park, make sure you refer to signs at the start of the track for more information.
