O'Reilly's Autumn Bird Week

Join bird lovers from far and wide af O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat’s famed Autumn Bird Week from Sunday 4 to Friday 9 March, 2018.

Home to Australia’s largest collection of sub-tropical birds, explore World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park on guided tours and witness migratory birds preparing to leave for wintering grounds further a field.

Guests can expect to see hundreds of bird species throughout the week, whereby assisting several research and conservation programs. Explore a range of habitats from dry rainforests to lagoons and some offsite locations such as neighboring Kerry Valley.

Spot species such as Thrushes, Lyrebird, Pitta, Riflebird, Catbird, Wompoo Pigeon, Rose Robin with some Eucalypt forest edge species. Add to your count at night during Nocturnal Bird Spotlighting for species such as Boobook Owl, Marbled Frogmouth, Owlet Nightjar and Sooty Owl.

Plus, enjoy presentations by experienced O’Reilly’s guides and guest speaker Dave Stewart who has been involved in the previous 16 events. Dave is the most renowned wildlife sound recordist in Australia and has the most comprehensive collection of quality digital Australian bird recordings, exceeding 700 species.

*Note: Autumn Bird Week is a precursor to the larger, internationally renowned annual Bird Week held each November.
