Tropical North Queensland is the closest destination to the Great Barrier Reef. It was built to provide jobs as part of an employment relief scheme instigated by the Queensland Government during the great depression of the 1930's It was in this climate that the Johnstone Shire Council erected the Shire Hall which has dominated the Innisfail Skyline for over 70 years.

The Mission Beach Markets are local community markets run by Rotary Mission Beach. The Mission Beach Markets are held in the shady Day Park beside the beach on Porter Promenade, Mission Beach. They run from 7am until 12noon, and are held on the first and third Sunday of each month all year round.

The Feast of the Three Saints

The Feast of the Three Saints is held at St Johns Parish School in Silkwood every year. Silkwood is a short 25 minute drive South from Innisfail The Feast is held annually on the first Sunday in May, to celebrate and Commemorate the lives of three brothers, Saints Alfio, Filadelfo and Cirino, who were martryed for their Christian beliefs.
