More than 130 years in the making, Thangool first opened to settlers, who tried it as a sheep run in the 1850s. Soon to fail, beef cattle were introduced and later, dairy and cotton took hold. Based on the success of these industries, a make-shift town sprang up.

Moura is located in the Banana Shire on the Dawson Highway, 180 kilometres south-west of Gladstone or 586 kilometres north-west of Brisbane. This diverse township is located in the Dawson Valley. Named the 'Heart of the Dawson Valley', this thriving community is known for its coal mining, cotton processing, wheat and sorghum growing and chemical manufacture.
