Embark on a journey of discovery of Aboriginal culture with a guided walk along a picturesque beachside rainforest walkway wrapped around the magical mountain, Jellurgal. Learn about the Aboriginal history and culture of the Gold Coast, meet a traditional land owner and hear the Dreamtime stories associated with the creation of Jellurgal.

Hear about traditional life pre-contact, bush tucker, fishing, hunting and the important ecological practices and connection to the land embraced by the Yugambeh speaking people for thousands of years.

Jellurgal Walkabout Tour

Jellurgal Walkabout Tour

Participants are guided to Burleigh Cove to begin their trek around the Dreaming Mountain, Jellurgal, with an ochre anointment. This important ancient ceremony is performed by traditional custodians of the Yugambeh Language Group who will bless you with a safe journey.

During the trek around the mountain, participants will discover traditional sites used by the Yugambeh people, including an ancient midden and carving stone. Aspects of traditional life, including the sharing of one of the Gold Coast's oldest Dreamtime Stories, 'The creation of Jellurgal', is a highlight.

The Jellurgal trek takes 1 hour 30 minutes.

Jellurgal Journey

Jellurgal Journey

Your morning begins at Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre at 10am with a live Aboriginal Dance performance after which you begin your Jellurgal trek with an ochre anointment performed by traditional custodians of the Yugambeh Language Group. The Jellurgal trek takes 45 minutes where you will visit the midden and other significant Aboriginal sites along the way. Your journey ends back at Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre where your welcome to come in and visit the Jellurgal gift shop or enjoy a coffee at Jingi Cafe.
