The Mackay Region | Places to Visit

Take some time to soak up life in the Mackay Region and venture into nature. 

  • Wander the town centre taking in its historic, art deco buildings, or try one of the al fresco cafes and restaurants. 
  • Escape the city and spend a day walking the shady trails of Brampton Island or pitch a tent and spend the night. Stay in comfort on Keswick Island and wake up to the rainforest coloured reefs for a full day of kayaking and snorkelling.
  • Inland is where you will find tropical rainforest and mountainous terrain of Eungella National Park looming over the city and the coast - home to the ever so cute platypus!  A different experience awaits with towns like Nebo and Clermont offering an insight into local country life where rich mining and farming is at its core.
  • Take a self-drive adventure along the Hibiscus Coast – a 93km stretch of diverse landscapes from Farleigh to the coastal town of Midge Point. Along the way make a pit stop at Cape Hillsborough National Park. Where rainforest meets the ocean, this is where you will spot a wallaby playing on the beach.
  • On a road less travelled, the Mining Trail will take you west, far away from city-life and into the wide, beautiful landscapes, historic towns and vibrant mining communities.  Head south from Mackay and experience the prosperous hinterland that is the Serenity Coast.
