This 64 kilometre point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Teams of two to four runners can also complete the full course. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks.
There is a shorter 16 kilometre race on the same day, starting at the top of the Bump on Black Mountain Road. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height - you might see one!
