30 June – 1 July 2018 -
The Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Maleny explodes in a sea of colour as the Knitfest Yarn and Fibre Arts festival takes over the town for the first weekend in July each year. Yarnbombing is the showcase of this event where the town’s streetscape is wrapped in art, as the Knitfest Team yarnbomb trees, buildings and inanimate objects.
The festival hosts 30 workshops, guest speakers, music, trade stalls, a Suitcase Market, demonstrations and competitions.
Take the free Knitfest Bus as it weaves around the Festival Precinct, past the colourful decorated trees and down to the Showgrounds where the Queensland Alpaca Association's Fleece and Halter show is on. The theme this year is Outer Space/Sci-Fi so it's no surprise that the Brisbane Astronomical Society have joined the event for a huge Stargazing night. Tickets for the Workshops and Stargazing night are available online on their website.
Knitfest volunteers have been working hard to prepare the many yarnbombing projects for this year's event. If you would like to become involved, sell your crafts or enter the many competitions in this creative festival, please contact the Festival Team, all ages welcome. Knitfest is a free, fun day out for the whole family.
