Deep in the heart of the Gulf Savannah region in Far North Queensland is a hidden outback oasis - Cobbold Gorge. This Savannah Guide Station is located on a working cattle property and features a unique, narrow gorge set amid rugged sandstone formations with spectacular 30 metre cliffs that narrow to just two metres wide. To protect the fragile environment, access is by guided tour only. Cruise the gorge in an electric boat to explore the ancient geology with an expert guide - an awesome and unforgettable experience. Discover wildlife, go bushwalking or birdwatching, spot a crocodile and experience life on a cattle station.

There is no need to rough it! Cobbold Village accommodation ranges from recently refurbished air-conditioned ensuite rooms to shady campsites. There are unpowered, powered and ensuite sites in the grassed camping area. McDonalds Deck provides snacks, meals and a licensed bar to relax and take in the peaceful atmosphere. The friendly staff and well-informed guides will help make your visit memorable. If you are limited for time, consider flying in - a well maintained airstrip is located nearby.

Our Rooms

Station Suites

Getting off the beaten track doesn't mean going without comfortable accommodation. If you are an adventurous grey nomad, on family holiday, with your partner, children or travelling on your own, Cobbold Gorge offers accommodation options and rates to suit every group and budget.

Station Suites are semi-self-contained with microwave, toaster and sink and a veranda. They are available as single, twin, queen, king or as family rooms (maximum two adults and up to four children, aged up to 15 years, possible in adjoining rooms. Limited availability).

Boundary Huts

The well-appointed, recently refurbished rooms are air-conditioned with ensuites and television, bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.

Boundary Huts are stand-alone cabins offering outdoor sitting areas, available as doubles.

Rouseabout Rooms

Renovated in 2015. The renovation doubled the floor space and rooms now include your own private veranda. The well-appointed rooms are air-conditioned with ensuites and television, bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.

Rouseabout Rooms are motel-style and available as twin or king bed. Some have extra single bed subject to availability.

Camping Sites

Cobbold Village offers a level soft camp ground with lots of trees. The excellent amenities provide clean toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities, fresh water on tap and individual fireplaces and barbecues (firewood can be collected outside Village gates). Caravans are welcome with powered sites available within the camp grounds, and ensuite powered sites available in a separate area. Join the ranks of those who come for a day and stay for a week (60 camping sites).

Dive Thru Powered Sites

New in 2014 - "Marriage Friendly Sites"! You will love these drive thru sites where you can stay hooked up or unhook, the choice is yours. Water, power, sullage and individual fire pits throughout.

Ensuite Van Sites

Ensuite van sites, in an area separate area are available for those wanting to indulge in some "outback luxury".

Powered Sites

Powered sites are available within the camping area. Great for camper trailers or tents.

Dive Thru Powered Sites

Situated off the road to Bargara is the low-lying volcanic remnant known as "The Hummock" which, although only 96 metres above sea-level, offers visitors good views over the whole area. The ocean is visible to the east while, to the west, the sugar fields can be seen encircling the city with the smoke stacks of the Bundaberg Distillery and Mill on the horizon.

Coonarr

Coonarr Beach is a 4.2 kilometre long, east facing beach that begins amongst the tidal shoals of the Elliott River mouth, then runs straight down to the smaller mouth of Coonarr Creek. There is a gravel road out to the small beachfront settlement of Coonarr, located toward the southern end of the beach.

Kinkuna section of Burrum Coast National Park preserves a wilderness area of coastal vegetation and wide, unspoilt beaches, just 30 kilometres south of Bundaberg. The Burrum Coast National Park which also incorporates both Woodgate and Burrum River sections is part of the Great Sandy Region, of which Fraser Island is best known.

Cochrane Artificial Reef Dive Site

The Cochrane Artificial Reef in the Woongarra Marine Park, is like something straight out of a movie. Just a short boat trip from shore, you'll find the impressive 50 metre ‘Ceratodus II’ and the 40 metre long 'Porteur' surrounded by two Mohawk aircraft and a Kingair aircraft, two lightships, and a criss-cross of concrete modules, pipes and other structures all taken over by coral and sea life.
