Here in Queensland we do festivals a little differently.  

Whether you're into music, yoga, surfing, dining, pumpkin rolling or even bog snorkelling (yep, it’s a thing), there’s a festival in the Sunshine State for you.  

Music Festivals

Local and international talent is on show year-round in Queensland. And you can see them against some star-studded backdrops: on the beach, in the forest, deep into the outback against a 40m high red sand dune.

  • CMC Rocks QLD; the country’s biggest international country music festival.

Lifestyle Festivals

Treat the family, or treat your soul, at one of our many lifestyle festivals.

  • Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers; to celebrate spring in true Queensland fashion.
  • Woodford Folk Festival; ring in the New Year with a huge bon fire, arts, crafts and music. 
  • Ekka: Royal Queensland Show; when the country comes to the city to showcase farm life, food and produce. 
  • Noosa Festival of Surfing; see dogs hang ten and celebrate surf lifestyle. 

Outback Festivals

They say the journey is more important than the destination. And the best way to experience the spirit, community and adventure of Outback Queensland is to head here for a festival.  

  • Birdsville Big Red Bash; the world's most remote music festival.
  • Winton Splendid Film Festival; celebrate the film industry with open air cinemas, tours and meet the stars behind the scenes.
  • Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo; adrenalin pumping non-stop rodeo action, street celebrations and music.
  • Birdsville Races; the Melbourne Cup of the Outback.
  • Winton Way Out West Festival; a four-day music and cultural experience.

Indigenous Festivals

Queensland is home to both Indigenous cultures of Australia; Aboriginal and Torres Strait. Get beneath the surface of both cultures at a festival. Experience traditional dancing, singing, art and crafts at one of these cultural festivals:

    • Cairns Indigenous Art Fair; see Indigenous artwork, fashion and dancing on show.
      • Laura Quinkan Dance Festival, where Indigenous family groups meet to pass down cultural knowledge and dancing to the next generation.
        • Winds of Zenadth Festival; a celebration of Torres Strait Islander culture, heritage and history.
        • Keep the Flames of Culture Burning; five communities of Cape York come together.

  • Have a spoon full of sugar and watch the Great Nanny Challenge at the Mary Poppins Festival in Maryborough. 
  • See camels charge down the straight at Boulia Camel Races.
  • Bring your merry men to the Abbey Medieval Festival in the Moreton Bay region.

Great Barrier Reef Festival

The Great Barrier Reef Festival, proudly supported by Cruise Whitsundays, celebrates what it means to live in the Whitsunday region at the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Bigsound 2020

Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival

Winton is fast becoming known as the “Hollywood in the Outback” thanks to the events of Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival and having several major film productions including Nick Cave’s Proposition and Ivan Sen’s "Mystery Road" and "Goldstone" being filmed there.

Bleach* Festival

CMC Rocks QLD 2021

Jungle Love Festival

Jungle Love Festival is a boutique music festival that celebrates up and coming local musicians, artists and art workers and draws a like-minded community from South East Queensland and beyond. They follow a different model to most other festivals whereby they closely curate the entire program and add in different acts that they know most people are unaware of but will thoroughly enjoy, creating an element of surprise.

Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival

The Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival hosts free international and Australian talent annually across 20 outdoor stages and venues throughout Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. The event, staged in the streets, parks and venues of Broadbeach over four huge days, throughout the popular Gold Coast hub will also feature plenty of talent from all genres of Blues music and is unique in its location with access to plenty of accommodation, dining, retail options.

1770 Festival

UPDATE: unfortunately the difficult decision has been made to cancel the 1770 Festival in 2020. The team have been planning for this historical 250th commemorative event for many years and are saddened that their efforts will not come to fruition this year.

Taste Bundaberg Festival
