Brisbane Airport – International & Domestic terminals

Brisbane Airport is located 15kms from Brisbane City and has a range of transport options to get you where you need to go.

The AirTrain is the most efficient form of public transport from the Airport with services operating between Brisbane Airport, Brisbane City and the Gold Coast. With stops at both the domestic and international terminals, you can get from the airport to Brisbane City in 20 minutes. Book your ticket online before arriving into Brisbane to save on ticket prices and keep in mind that kids aged up to and including 14 years of age travel for free.

There are clearly signed areas at both terminals if you choose to jump straight into a taxi or organise transport through a ride sharing app such as Uber. Order your ride share and follow the signs to the designated areas to meet with your driver.

If you prefer to drive yourself, there are many car rental services at the Domestic and International terminals.

Before arriving, check with your hotel if they offer a transfer service or you can book your own door-to-door bus or transfer through independent companies.

How to get around Brisbane

By car

Hiring a car in Brisbane gives you the freedom to explore all parts of the river city, from the islands in the east to the hinterland in the west and all the neighbouring precincts and suburbs in between.

Driving yourself is the best way to explore the city and take in the scenery and it is relatively easy with lots of signage and less traffic than other major cities.

CityCat

Whether you need to get to a riverside precinct or just want to get out on Brisbane’s glorious river, a ride on the CityCat is one of the must dos when you are in town.

Jump on the CityCat from Brisbane City or South Bank and take a trip to the Brisbane Powerhouse near New Farm Park.

Public Transport - Trains & Buses

Brisbane’s public transport system is run by Translink and you can visit Translink’s website for all bus and train service details.

There is a free CityLoop bus which takes you from one end of the CBD to the other so keep a look out for these red busses.

The train system will conveniently get you around the inner-city stops like Central (Brisbane City), Fortitude Valley, South Brisbane and South Bank. You can also jump on the train to get yourself to the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

Walkways and Bikeways

Brisbane is blessed with walkways and bikeways connecting West End, South Bank and The City with New Farm and Fortitude Valley.

There are CityCycle bike stations throughout the CBD and inner-city suburbs so you can hire your own bike and explore the beautiful surrounds of the city on two wheels. You can use the pedestrian and cycle bridges, Goodwill and Kurilpa, to get across the river or walk the riverside pathways at South Bank, Kangaroo Point and New Farm.

Getting to the Moreton Bay Islands

If you’re wanting to get out and explore Brisbane’s beautiful bayside islands there are ferries that will take you there in less than 90 minutes.

Catch a ferry from the Port of Brisbane to Moreton Island which will take about 75 – 90 minutes.

For North Stradbroke Island ferries leave from Cleveland, arriving to Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island. The ferries can take between 20 – 40 minutes so you can get from the main land to North Stradbroke Island within the hour.
