Bustard Downs is a 220 acre organic beef farm on the road to Cape York offering three unique accommodation, caravan and camping options.

Farm Stay Bed and Breakfast Guesthouse, perfect for birdwatchers, has four bedrooms, sleeping one to eight guests in rustic bush chic, with private gardens, swimming pool, king size or king single beds, cotton linen, great for the tropics. Breakfast hampers feature local produce, simply presented for self-catering. Supplies are from the farm and local growers. They source organic, bio-dynamic produce where possible. The property is owned and run by an Australian family.

The two bedroom Cottage sleeps one to five guests, and has a vintage feel with rustic wooden floors, clean white linen, offering a haven in the bush above cool, clear Mary Creek, with views across the Savannah to The Great Dividing Range.

Bustard Downs Mary Creek Caravan and Camping ground is an outback bush experience in Tropical North Queensland, less than a two hour drive from Cairns, or a 45 minute drive from Port Douglas or Mareeba. Rarely crowded, this is a great place to base yourself to day drive the local areas of Julatten, Mount Lewis National Park, Mount Molloy, and Mount Carbine.

Our Rooms

The self-contained Farm Cottage is an easy country getaway, has two bedrooms and sleeps up to four guests. This is an authentic original tobacco farmers cottage furnished in vintage style. The cottage sits above the Mary Creek in private native gardens that Scarlet honeyeaters and sunbirds just love. An outback bush atmosphere on an Organic Cattle Farm with mountain views.

Caravan and Camping

All are welcome. This is a a quiet relaxed laid back caravan and camping ground. A friendly welcome awaits guests on spacious shady sites above the Mary Creek, 300 or more sunny days per year, hot showers, clean facilities, communal open fire place with fire wood provided. Beautiful landscape and mountain views. This is a working farm with a small herd of Brahman cattle that occupy the paddocks alongside the Bustards. The owners offer a friendly welcome to their guests and leave you to your own peace and privacy. Unless you ask for help or assistance you will be left alone to enjoy your own outback bush experience, the quiet pace, the clean air and sunshine.

Bustard Downs Farmstay Guesthouse provides personalised hosted accommodation on an organic farm including breakfast hampers and barbecue dinner packs for self-catering which feature fresh local organic produce from the farm or from local Tableland Farmers where possible. Exclusive use of the owners 20 metre swimming pool, access to Mary Creek, Tropical food garden, chickens, dogs and cows. Excellent viewing platform for birdwatchers, self-guided walks with maps provided.

Mount Fox

Mount Beerwah

Leave your vehicle in the car park on the banks of the Obi Obi Creek and take a short, level walk downstream to Gardners Falls.  You’ll pass a number of shallow rock pools which are ideal for smaller children who just want to splash about.
