Day 1 Great Barrier Reef Adventures: The Whitsundays is literally in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Board one of their fast cruising vessels and journey through the Whitsunday Islands to one of their pontoons at the stunning outer Great Barrier Reef. Overnight Reefsleep Experience

There can be few more unique experiences offered in the World than the chance to sleep under the stars, 40 nautical miles from shore, on the Great Barrier Reef! 'Reefworld' is located on Hardy Reef one of the most spectacular stretches of the Great Barrier Reef off the Queensland coast.

They only take a few overnight guests, and you can bunk down on deck with them in a 'swag' (an Australian sleeping roll, a bit like a giant sleeping bag-tent, with a mesh cover, so that you can see the stars. Each swag sleeps one or two people and has a mattress, base and sleeping sheet, sleeping bag and pillow).

This day cruise experience includes a vessel transfer to and from the Reef, full use of the pontoon, overnight accommodation at Reefworld, snorkelling with all gear provided, semi-submersible cruise with commentary, underwater viewing chamber, two all you can eat buffet lunches, two morning and afternoon teas, a superb seasonal menu for dinner, presentations by Reef Experts, free wetsuit usage and use of the sun deck for topping up your tan. Nebo

Nebo has a diverse array of offerings, with significant coal deposits, prime grazing land and crop cultivation. Historical sites in the region include Lake Elphinstone, the Mount Britton Gold Mining site, and the intrepid traveller can find the site where Leichhardt camped as he explored the region in 1845.

Dugong Sanctuary - Clairview

In 1997, the Great Barrier Reef Ministerial Council established Clairview (a small beach town approximately 1.5 hours south of Mackay) as a dugong sanctuary. Often dugongs can be spotted when they surface to breathe from the shore, or in the water, when in a kayak, boat or other recreational vessel - so keep an eye out for these majestic creatures!

Grasstree Beach

Grasstree Beach is one of the most picturesque and beautiful beaches in the Mackay Region, located within a 15 minute drive from Sarina. Nestled in sheltered Zelma Bay, the shallow beach is a popular swimming destination, although it is not patrolled.

Hay Point

Hay Point, Mackay Area
Hay Point is located approximately 40 kilometres south of Mackay, and is best-known for hosting one of the largest coal-loading facilities in the world at the Port of Hay Point. The Port Administration building features a public viewing gallery offering fantastic views of the two coal terminals.

Lake Elphinstone

Lake Elphinstone is a natural lake within Nebo Shire. Water skiing is allowed in one section of the lake when water height allows. The lake attracts an abundance of birdlife making bird watching a popular activity with visitors.

Carmila

Carmila, Isaac Area
Carmila is situated approximately 96 kilometres south of Mackay on the Bruce Highway. Carmila offers a 24 hour roadhouse, caravan park, general store, post office and library, and is a major sporting and social centre for the surrounding cane farms.
