Emerging in the late 1980s, a new wave of vocal Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander activism placed Brisbane at the forefront of an urban art movement. Drawing on the Museum of Brisbane Collection, Voice in Action explores the city’s unique socio-political climate during the 1980s and its impact on the rise of strong new artistic voices.

Life in Irons: Brisbane's Convict Stories

Moreton Bay penal colony was established by the British Government to “…reinstate transportation as an object of real terror to all classes of society”. It succeeded. Life in Irons: Brisbane’s Convict Stories provides a vivid insight into daily life in the settlement using original documents, personal accounts, historical objects and contemporary art, brought to life with immersive new technologies.

Shapeshifters: 3D Printing the Future

Showcasing works by seven Australian and one international maker, this exhibition explores how 3D printing has revolutionised design and the way it applies to products in our everyday lives. Artist creations on display include jewellery, fashion, furniture and prosthetics, all created with 3D printing technology.

Quandamooka Festival 2018

Quandamooka Festival, held over three winter months, returns in 2018 to coastal region of East Brisbane with up to 55 events including whale watching cultural tours, Kunjiels (corroborees), Indigenous sports, music, eco boat tours, art exhibitions, fibre art and weaving workshops, bush tucker dining, arts and cultural talks by specialists and new events featuring international acts and First Nations dancers and performances - something to suit all ages!
