Mermaid Waters

Mermaid Waters, Gold Coast Area
Boasting waterways with names such as Rumrunner Lake and Lake Wonderland, it's easy to see the appeal of Mermaid Waters, a canal community which sits at the elbow of Mermaid Beach. Australian surveyor John Oxley first came to the area in 1823 and gave it its name after the cutter ship Mermaid on which he travelled.

Woombye

Woombye, Sunshine Coast Area
Woombye used to be called Cobb’s Camp due to the fact that it was a staging post for the Cobb & Co coaches. The local pub celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2000, and is certainly worth a visit. Woombye is home to luscious sub-tropical fruits, and the popular Macadamia nut.

Flaxton

Flaxton, Sunshine Coast Area
Flaxton, in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, is a tiny village where you will find lovely arts and crafts and excellent Devonshire teas and lunches. Surrounding the many avocado orchards is a town of restaurants, guesthouses, art and craft galleries and private dwellings.

Macleay Island

Macleay Island, Redland City Area
With an emerging arts culture, Macleay Island has a range of art to explore within the Macleay Island Arts Complex Inc. There are several beaches for swimming and fishing, with barbecue facilities in the foreshore parks.

Kirra

Kirra Beach, Gold Coast Area
There's variations on what the word Kirra actually means, but some believe Queensland Aborigines named it after a boomerang. Which makes sense as Kirra wraps evocatively around the bend separating Coolangatta and Kirra beaches and in front of Kirra Hill.
