Food and Wine

From the vineyards and olive trees embracing the highlands of the Great Dividing Range to the open plains out west, Southern Queensland Country serves up a menu ranging from wild adventure to relaxed indulgence.

  • Drive through the vineyards and cellar doors of the Granite Belt where grapes have been grown since 1870 and varieties range from top-shelf Shiraz and Chardonnay to Viognier, Mourvedre and Tempranillo.
  • Relish La dolce vita at a local Italian, family-run restaurant.
  • Experience the historical setting of Steele Rudd’s stories in one of Toowoomba’s many country pubs and dig into a prime cut of locally produced beef paired with a bottle of your favourite drop.
  • Indulge in South Burnett, home to the largest vineyard in Queensland called Murgon, which offers six vineyards and cellar doors within a 15-kilometre radius of the town.
  • Hit the famous peanut van of Kingaroy.
  • Hand-pick your own cherries, apples, or strawberries right off the side of the road.
  • Tempt your taste buds along the StrangeBird wine trail.  A self-drive wine trail for the adventurous alternative variety wine seekers.
  • Keep a look out for wild asparagus, fennel and saffron growing throughout the region.

With the cooler climate, the country setting, top shelf vineyards and fresher than fresh produce, you might just feel like you’ve landed in a little piece of heaven.
