Full Itinerary

Turn off the Bruce Highway at exit 244, onto the Old Bruce Highway.

Turn left onto Kenilworth Skyring Creek Road. This road will rise to a lookout point before dropping to cross Chinaman's Creek Bridge.

Turn right onto Tuchekoi Road and notice how the landscape has changed from light forest to grazing pastures. At the intersection of Mary Valley Road look out for the old barn which is popular with photographers.

Turn left and make your way to the township of Imbil. Imbil is a quaint and modest town with a Sunday market and is home to the Mary Valley Tomato Festival in December.

The dam is regularly used by keen anglers and assorted watersport enthusiasts. For non-motorised craft the upper reachers of the dam are abundant with birdlife and offer many inlets to discover.

Many of Goomeri’s buildings were constructed in the 1920s and retain all their original charm.  The town is steeped in history, the ‘Lest We Forget’ town clock built in 1939 has become a landmark, earning Goomeri the name of ‘Clocktown’.

Kumbia is a small town nestled into the foothills of the Bunya Mountains, on the Bunya Highway, between the Mountains and Kingaroy. This picturesque little town offers a great opportunity to stop and stock up on groceries and fuel before you head up into the Bunyas - note there are only basic supplies available at The Bunyas general store and no fuel or bottle shop on the mountain.

Coomba Falls, at Maidenwell, is an exceptionally beautiful place, featuring a deep natural swimming hole and striking granite cliffs. The water is icy most of the year, so it's the ideal site to cool down on a hot day.

Benarkin

Just 3.5 kilometres east of Blackbutt, the little town of Benarkin also lies adjacent to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, and Bicentennial National Trail. You'll find overnight camping and day use facilities for caravans and trail users in First Settlers Park, and fuel, food and supplies at the general store.

Benarkin State Forest on the Blackbutt Range is a great spot to picnic, fish, spot platypus or hike or ride on forest trails. From the D'Aguilar Highway an unsealed 16 kilometre scenic forest drive leads through rainforest, hoop pine plantations and eucalypt forests containing blackbutt, tallowwood, white mahogany, gums and ironbarks to small flats beside the inviting waters of Emu Creek.

Mount Wooroolin Lookout

You'll find great views from Mount Wooroolin Lookout, just over four kilometres west of Kingaroy. Established in 1988 as a bicentennial project by Kingaroy Shire Council, the area features a grassed area with picnic tables and wood barbecues.

Gordonbrook Dam

Gordonbrook Dam is the sole water supply for Kingaroy and a peaceful spot to unwind. Originally built in 1941 as a water supply for the Royal Australian Air Force Training Base during WWII, the dam wall was raised in 1987 to inundate an area of 229 hectares - the dam we have today.
