This family-friendly region marks the start of the Southern Great Barrier Reef with undiscovered islands offshore and nesting turtles at Mon Repos on the mainland. Turtles

The Mon Repos Conservation Park, in Bargara, north-east of Bundaberg, is one of Australia’s most important turtle breeding sites. See these endangered creatures come ashore to nest on the beaches from November to January, then watch as the babies hatch and make their way to the sea from February to March. 

Southern Great Barrier Reef

The Southern Great Barrier Reef begins in the clear waters off Bundaberg. Go off the grid at Lady Elliot Island, a remote coral cay with a single eco-friendly resort focused on conservation. Swim with manta rays and turtles that visit the calm waters or learn to scuba dive at one of the island’s 20 dive sites.

Farm to Table

Bundaberg’s rich red soil and sunny skies make for a foodie paradise. Sample famous Bundaberg Rum and Ginger Beer at the local distillery and brewery, and eat your fill of fresh oysters, crab, scallops and fish from the local fishing boats. Sample a huge selection of goodies at the weekly RiverFeast Markets, or time your visit to attend the Bundy Flavours and Winterfeast Farmers Market in July.

Take a step back in time and admire the architecture from a different time at the former Commercial bank of Sydney building. This majestic building was completed in 1891 and is important in demonstrating the evolution of Bundaberg as a regional centre, as well as the evolution of the early competitive banking facilities in rural Queensland.

Bundaberg's WWI memorial has the distinction of being unveiled twice - the soldier statue, imported from Italy, had not arrived in time for the ANZAC Day 1921 memorial unveiling and another ceremony was held a year later.

Childers Library offers various items for loan to members including bookings, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and eDownloads. Visitors are able to join the Library as temporary members by paying a refundable security deposit.

Historic Childers Street Walk

The township of Childers is set on top of rolling hills of red soil framed by green fields on sugar cane, avocados and macadamias. This walk will take you through the variety of architectural styles from past to present that Childers township has to offer reflecting its many food production industries.

The marina offers visitors to the Coral Coast a first class marina facility to access the wonders of the Southern Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage listed Fraser Island.
