North Stradbroke Island

From diving with manta rays to epic 4wd tracks, North Stradbroke Island is an adventures paradise located less than an hour’s ferry ride from Brisbane

Comprised of three small townships, North Stradbroke Island, or Straddie as it is affectionately known to the locals, is the second largest sand island in the world filled with cultural significance and stunning natural landscapes.

Things to do

Take the Gorge Walk along the headland of Point Lookout for stunning scenery with 1.2km of ocean and bushland views.  Between June and November, this is the perfect spot for whale watching or keep your eyes peeled for the resident dolphins or sea turtles throughout the year. Kangaroos also stop by the Gorge Walk for breakfast and dinner, so you are likely to spot one of these little fellas in your travels.

Cruise around the island and swap the bitumen for a 4WD adventure. There are many parts of North Stradbroke Island to explore but make sure you stop at the freshwater brown lake for a dip which is tinged brown by the native tea trees in the area.

Hit the surf at Cylinder Beach or meet the underwater wildlife with a snorkel or scuba dive. Head out to Shag Rock or Flat Rock and swim with the local manta rays in the summer months and grey nurse sharks in the cooler months.
