Taabinga Homestead

Taabinga Homestead is part of the National Estate and is central to the history of the South Burnett. The homestead was built in 1846 and is one of Queensland's oldest, continuously lived in rural homes.

Situated at Haly Creek near Kingaroy, Taabinga Homestead is a working cattle property. Accommodation at the Homestead is in fully equipped, self-contained cottages set amongst its gardens. Other outbuildings include the stables, a dairy, blacksmiths and butcher's shops.

Walking trails around the property, including its dam, allow visitors to see birds and native animals in their natural state. Visitors may also view Taabinga's cemetery and its vineyard, watch cattle work in action or simply relax in its tranquil setting.

The Homestead also caters for group visits, which feature a guided tour of the Homestead and outbuildings together with lunch, morning or afternoon tea as required.

A visit to Taabinga Homestead offers a genuine experience of rural living as well as a glimpse of past lifestyles at this historic property. Taabinga Homestead is owned and managed by Libby Leu and Colin Marshall. Libby's family has owned and lived at the Homestead since 1887.

Our Rooms

Single Mens Quarters

A bright sunny cottage with two bedrooms, one queen and one single. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. There is a second single bed in the sunroom. The cottage has an ample living area and an equipped kitchen. Heating is by slow combustion wood fire and/or reverse cycle air conditioning. There is a barbecue outside and the front verandah overlooks the Homestead's main gardens. Recent additions to the cottage include a large covered deck.

Store

Attractive cottage with two bedrooms, an equipped kitchen and good sized living area. The cottage has reverse cycle air conditioning. Recent renovation provides a new bathroom and expanded living space. A comfortable deck completes the cottage.

Goovigen

Goovigen is a small rural village in the region’s northern farming heartland. A short distance north-west of Jambin off the Burnett Highway, fewer than 300 people live in the town. The streets of Goovigen are as neat as a pin and the heritage buildings have been either restored to their former glory or updated for present needs.

150th Meridian

Located one kilometre east of Moura on the Dawson Highway, the 150th Meridian marker shows the position of the imaginary line (150 °E) on which Queensland (Eastern Standard) time is based. At the time of the equinox, a day is exactly 12 hours long anywhere on the Meridian line.

Callide Dam

Callide Dam is located 12 kilometres from Biloela via sealed road and approximately 90 kilometres south-west of Gladstone via the Dawson Highway. While compact, the lake provides visitors with rewarding fishing - especially for golden perch (yellowbelly) and barramundi.

Duaringa

Duaringa is located 107 kilometres west of Rockhampton along the Capricorn Highway. The small town is the essence of a small rural community. Duaringa is the oldest township in Duaringa Shire with buildings dating back to the 1860s and a corner of the local hotel has been preserved to show how early pioneers lived.
