Cape Palmerston National Park is one of the few remaining areas of natural coastline in the Mackay area. Windswept headlands, rainforest, swamps and sand dunes are shadowed by the imposing peak of Mount Funnel. Middens throughout Cape Palmerston are a reminder of the special connection Indigenous people have with this place.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Cape Creek Camping Area

With easy access to the creek for fishing and boating, the Cape Creek camping area in Cape Palmerston National Park is a small camp ground that is only accessible by Four Wheel Drive There are sand and grass sites for tent camping and camper trailers. Sites are shaded by she-oaks and the area is boarded by a creek mouth and the beach.

The Bounty is a tag and release event and was the first event to introduce photographing then releasing of fish instead of having the fish weighed or bought back for the event site. This was initially through supplying a disposable camera but technology caught up with them and now digital cameras are used.
