North Stradbroke Island’s beautiful Brown Lake takes its name from the native tea trees that colour the water. The site is of cultural significance to the Quandamooka people, and the nurturing effect of the tea trees that surround the lake is both restful and rejuvenating. This hidden treasure and popular swimming spot has picnic and barbecue facilities and an easy access road just outside of Dunwich.

Stage one of this multi-purpose path to Brown Lake, North Stradbroke Island, was funded by SRQ in 2003. Brown Lake (or Lake Bummiera) is a perched freshwater lake bounded by melaleuca and tea-tree bushland. It is a popular swimming place and has special significance to the local Aboriginal people. There are barbecue and picnic facilities and easy road access.
