Birdsville Races

Birdsville's busiest week of the year happens the first Friday and Saturday in September. Visitors take over this tiny outback town from all parts of Australia and the world for the Annual Birdsville Racing Carnival


Winton's Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival

Head to Winton a.k.a ‘Hollywood in the Outback’  to meet the actors, directors and producers behind some of your favourite Aussie films and at night, enjoy their talents on the big screen at the open-air theatre at the Vision Splendid Film Festival.

Witness the ghost town of Betoota come to life with holiday goers and Outback folk to celebrate the region’s signature event – The Betoota Races – and kicking off the Simpson Desert Racing Carnival. Firstly, chuck on your dancing shoes on Friday night for an outback bush dance followed by backing a winner in one of the six horse race meets the next day.

Bedourie Camel and Pig Races and Camp oven Cook-off

Windorah International Yabby Races

The Windorah International Yabby Races began 1998, and is always on the Wednesday night prior to the iconic Birdsville Races, which is on the first weekend of each September. It is held in the street outside of the Western Star Hotel, and draws a crowd of punters, ready to whet their appetite with speedy blue claw crustaceans.

Moura Muddy Water Classic - Fishing Competition

Upwards of 440 contenders turn up for the Moura Muddy Water Classic each year. Held at Apex Park on the beautiful Dawson River, hopeful contenders begin to pour in on Friday to get their nominations in.

Theodore Spindles and Spurs Campdraft

Distinctively Australian, campdrafts are a ritual of the drover, harking back to the mid-1880s and passed down through generations. Hard, fast and unforgiving, good natured gamesmanship between mates around the campfire sparked the now furious campdraft national competition that honours the elite in mustering and drafting skills.

Ewan Races

The Ewan Races honour the true spirit of country racing, by conducting its annual two-day race meeting, on the banks of Stockyard Creek, Charters Towers in North Queensland. With its on track facilities, EATC is proud to offer two days of first class, professional country racing with a prize pool of over AUD100,000, making it one of the richest country meetings on the racing calendar.
