Accessible on a day trip from Cairns, Jorgey’s Patch features a variety of terrains for divers to explore, including bommies, ridges, gutters and ledges. In depths between 10 and 25 metres divers will find an abundance of reef fish on this reef, including fusiliers, angelfish, wrasses, anemonefish and rock cods.

Wistari Wall

Heron Island, Gladstone Area
Wistari Reef is located only one kilometre south of Heron Island and is a popular site for diving. The best dive site on this reef is the brilliant Wistari Wall. This sloping wall drops from 3 metres to 20 metres and is decorated with many lovely corals.

Coral Expeditions - Great Barrier Reef

Possibly the most well-known dive site in the world can be found roughly 96 kilometres north of Cairns, at Cod Hole. Part of the string of long narrow Ribbon Reefs, Cod Hole is home to a group of very friendly potato cod, reaching up to 100 kilograms, that have become accustomed to divers over the past 30 years.

Heron Bommie

Heron Island, Gladstone Area
Heron Island’s most famous dive site is the always spectacular Heron Bommie. Located just outside the harbour, this group of six bommies is found on a sandy slope in depths from 8 metres to 18 metres. The bommies themselves are colourful, decorated with corals, but are often ignored as divers are two busy marvelling at the fish, turtles and other marine life.
