Outback Queensland | Travel Information

Domestic Airport

One of the best views of the Outback is from above. Take to the air and maximise your time on the ground to tick off as many experiences as you can west of the Great Dividing Range.

For those who want to get to the Outback fast, take the daily Qantas flights from Brisbane to Roma, Charleville, Longreach or Mount Isa. If you have time on your hands, Regional Airline REX has connecting flights from Brisbane, Toowoomba, Townsville and Cairns to Outback destinations including Bedourie, Boulia, Birdsville, Charleville, Cunnamulla, Julia Creek, Longreach, Mount Isa, Quilpie, Richmond and Windorah. Tickets and journeys can be explored further at their respective websites.

Train

Travel in comfort and see the blue Outback skies, rich golden soil and farmland from your window. There are a variety of train options available to suit your travel style, location and itinerary which are run through Queensland Rail. Tickets and journeys can be explored further at their website.

Bus

Enjoy the beauty of an Outback road trip without doing all the driving. Travelling by bus to the Outback is easier and more comfortable than ever with Bus Queensland. They’ll connect you with adventures and once-in-a-lifetime experiences from Brisbane and Townsville to over 80 iconic Outback locations. Tickets and journeys can be explored further at their website.

Drive

The well-maintained highways and mostly sealed roads will connect you between the Outback towns and make travelling through the region easier than most would think. For those in search of an off-the-beaten track 4WD experience, take an alternate route between towns and follow the nature tracks and back roads to explore this remarkable part of Australia. Hiring a car would be the best option.
