Birdsville Races

Birdsville's busiest week of the year happens the first Friday and Saturday in September. Visitors take over this tiny outback town from all parts of Australia and the world for the Annual Birdsville Racing Carnival

Head to Winton a.k.a ‘Hollywood in the Outback’  to meet the actors, directors and producers behind some of your favourite Aussie films and at night, enjoy their talents on the big screen at the open-air theatre at the Vision Splendid Film Festival.

Thangool Races

Thangool is the home of country horse racing within the Banana region. The large course and spacious green lawns give an ambience of calm, a contrast to the cut and thrust of colour, suspense and excitement among the spectators, and the jockeys and horses as they stride down the straight towards the winner’s post.

On Saturday 16 November 2019, Qantas will mark its 99th birthday. On this day the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited, QANTAS, was registered as a company in Brisbane. Qantas went on to set up operations and mail routes through Western Queensland and the Northern Territory.
